The decision is really designed to drive tho manufacturers of spurious wines and liquors to the wall, as it imposes a tax of fifty cents a quart on all wines not man? ufactured directly from tho grape. The Bureau has already begun to hear loud murmurs from the bogus champngnc makers, some of whom hold that tao" wine they make is equally as genuine as that imported. A GOLDEN WEDDING.'-Mr. Charles M. Gruber. aged seventy-two years, and his wife Mary, aged sixty-six, celebrated, their fiftieth wedding day last Monday. What a retrospect! On this occasion some of the wedding cake (or the re? mains, thereof, for time, tho great corroder, had robbed it of its freshness, and crumbled it into dust) of tho vene? rable couple was brought to light. They were married on the 5th December, 1820, by Rev. Dr. Bachman, who still lives. [Neicbcny Herald. MCST PEr.SECUTE SOMEBODY.-The Northern Methodist Church, which is only an active faction of tho radical party, wearied ont with tho resting of their sword of persecution siqce tho fall of negro slavery, have declared war on tho Free Masens. It is a gratifying reflec? tion that the fanatics are bound to bo whipped in that fight. Tho Free Ma? sons, in all quarrols, aro found on tho defensive, and the fact is historical, that nobody has ever yet succeeded in putting them to the wall. CATTTJRED COTTON AND SUGAR.-Among the awards by tho Court of Claims is one for $58,000, in favor of Rothschild Bros., for the net proceeds of 3GG hogs? heads of tobacco captured by the United States military forces in Richmond, and sold by the Seoretary of tho Treasury under stipulation. The total amount of judgments against tho United States in suits brought for the recovery of the prooeeds of captured cotton and sugar is, in round numbers, $295,000. Prominent officials of the Camden and Amboy, New Jersey and Pennsylvania Railroads have been in conference for the past three days at Philadelphia, and re? ported yesterday that the two former companies bad leased all their property to tho latter for guaranteed dividends of ten per cent, on tho capital. The value of the property thus transferred is over $10,000,000. Two boys at Paducah, Kentucky, cut down a tree to capture an opossum, but neglected to get out from under thc treo when it fell, causing a double barrel fu? neral. The 'possum is on another tree, waiting for somo moro boys. Tho President nominated Michael Schaughenessy as Marshal of the South? ern District of Mississippi. Tho wheels wero made with glass sides, so that everything within Iben: could bo seen, and wero securely locked, until tho drawing bogan. This was done by means of two little boys, who were securely blind? folded, ono drawing a number from ono ol tho wheols and the other the prize to correspond with it.
