Two BsAjb SOUTHERN SENATORS,-TWO of the Southern ' States have at last, elected Senators io the United States Congress who ?re worthy 16 represent them. They are gentlemen who have been identified all their lives with the States they represent, who are known to all the citizens, who are familiar with their interests, their wants and their sentiments, and whose characters and lives have been always without stain or reproach; who, too, are men of tried ability, knowledge of the law and ex? perience in political affairs. These Se? nators elect aro Governor Yance, of North Carolina, and Judge Gold th waite, of Alabama. They are as good repre? sentative men of "their States as oould he found within the limits thereof. Governor Vance served his State in the old ante-helinm times with a fidelity and ability whiob oballenged the respect of all men. He was a Union man, and bitterly opposed to the secession move? ment, but when his State was involved in tho war, he embarked in her defence wiib all the ardor and zeal of a true North Carolinian. What honest-feeling Northern man wiii think any tho less of him for this course? Judge Goldthwaite, who has just been elected from Alabama, is an old citizen and native of thc State, who filled with great credit and accepta? bleness the highest judicial positions in his State, and is greatly respected by all men in ?I?H State. Judge G. has long been regarded nB ono of tho ablest jurists in thc South. Such are the men who ought to repre? sent Southern States in Congress-men without bitterness or nltrnisrn of politi? cal views, but of tho highest character for integrity, fidelity and capacity. The Congress of the Uuited States needs such an infusion of that ability and stern integrity which the South, when left to choose from her own sons, has never failed to give to that body; men who are beyond the reach of those cor? rupting influences which exercise so baneful a control over our national ad? ministration-who cannot be approached by jobbers, cliques and speculative claimants.-Neto Orleans Times. The New York Tribune says: Only a single ocean cable remains unimpaired, and this has been so overtaxed with bu? siness that tho compnuy, to diminish the volume of despatches, lins advanced the tariff. There is great dauger that the broken cable cannot be repaired nor new ones laid during tho winter, and we may be deprived, in large measure, of the telegraphic facilities heretofore enjoyed.
