$3,500 of the $20,000 stolen some weeks
since from one of the divisions of the
Treasurer's office, while visitors were
being shown through the room. The
note had never beed used, and was tho
atonement of a*feuilty conscience.
? sensible man was he who found an
enormous diamond in South Africa. He
was offered $110,000 for it on the spot,
bnt he refused to take less than $150,
000. Failing to get this, he stopped
hunting and made thu best of time "for
England Ho!"
The New York Journal of Commerce
says that parties in South Carolina have
forwarded $17,000 for packages of coun?
terfeit money, advertised by a bogus
concern, which hos just been broken up.
