Accordingly, the marino batteries have boen spiked and powder destroyed, 'and at mid-night the Prussians occupied Orleans. Despatches from the chief of the corps d'armee announce the retreat, which was nnule iu good order, but no despatches have been received from General Palladines. INOENDXAUY FlHES IN EDGEEIBXD. We learn from our regular correspondent at Edgefield, that the gin house of Mr. James D. Hammond was consumed by .fire on Tdesday night, the 6th instant, containing eight bales of cotton. Seve? ral bales were packed and stored auder the gin house. Also, that tho giu house of E. J. Miller was set on fire the same j night, bat was discovered before the fire had made much headway and ex? tinguished. The above named citizens lived on the Martin Town road, eighteen miles above Hamburg. The fires were .doubtless kindled by some of the disci? ples of tho Radical faith in that County, as these gentlemen are uroong . the best ci tisons of Edgefield, aud aro not known to hare an enemy among the white people. AN OuritAOE.-On Sunday night, the 27th ultimo, a party of disguised persons went to the house of one Perry Price, in this County, seized, blind-folded and inflicted upon him a most cruel and brutal boating. Upon information of the fads, Trial Justice Fleming, with three disoreet and prudent citizens of our town, went to Price's house to in? vestigate tho matter. They found abun? dant evidonoe of tho inhuman lashing ho had received, bat unfortunately for the oauso of justice and humanity, he could not identify nny of tho p'arty. [Carolina Spartan. Tho Secretary of State has received a despatch from London, announcing that "Russia, Prussia, England, Turkey and Italy hav6 agreed to a conference con? vention, to be held in London, to con? sider tho Eastern question. Franoo and Austria havo not, been heard from on the subject, but it is-probable the latter will adqaiesce." Secretary Fish Bays this assures tho peace of Europe, at least so'far as tho Eastern question is concerned.. Mr. Whipper repeated his request, I that the House decide the question, that ho might immediately vacate his seat, if they decide that ho is ineligible, and I moved that W. J. Whipper be expelled. Mr. By as seconded the motion. Mr. Hurley requested W. J. Whipper to withdraw the motion, and he did so, ! temporarily. Mr.-Hurley said that the question of Mr. Whipper's eligibility never occurred to bim before this morn? ing, He desired Mr. Whipper to remain a member of the House, and hoped Mr. Whipper would at some time ascertain who wrote the article. Ho thought the writor was a member of the last General Assembly. Mr. Whipper renewed his motion.
