We see mnoh to oensnre in what they all do. Wo feel that none are willing to do what we know ought to be done for our own people. While we cannot get what is best for our country, we may yet seek to have what is tho nearest approaoh to right and justice. At all events, we may hopo to have something done to stop the wild ex? cesses of mischief. lu this view, the remarkable increase I of the Democratic party in tho recent j elections, must gratify the Southern ad? vocates of liberty and union. All men of sonso in the South know that our con? nection with the Federal Union is now indissoluble. Very few would desire now to dissolve it. All that they wish for, in that respect, is to see the Federal Govern? ment well and wisely managed. In that, they know that all their interests aro in? volved. In a good administration of thc Federal Government the Southern people have ? great interest. It is this purpose and this feeling that causes the intelligent men of tho South to regard with so much satisfaction the signs that the Republican party aro de? clining in the esteem of the people, and that the return of the Democratic party to power seems now so probable. Let all our people not only observe this de? sirable change with interest, but be care? ful to promote it with all tho means and agenoies at their disposal. There seems now to be a certain prospect that our en? durance of the worst tyranny of a faotion is near its dose.-Richmond Diapatch. ECONOMY AND COMFORT TN BUILDING. CAPTAIN KIDD'S TREASURE.-Tho New York Star has a long and circumstantial account of an alleged discovery of a portion of the treasure hid away by Kidd, the famous pirate. It was made by three New Yorkers, directed by tho spirits, at a point on the Hudson; six miles above West Point, and removed after much digging and blasting. Tho amount said to have been recovered is $7,000, in Spanish doubloons of a re? mote date, buried in an iron chest. The story reads a little marvellous, and upon the whole, smells somewhat fishy. SOMETHING STBANGB.-King William claims several important victories, but seems to have dissolved partnership with "Providence." Either King William's victories are not great enough to thank God for, or else he has reached that per? fect independence of the supernatural which Nebuchadnezzar atttained before be "went to grass." The Mikado of Japan closes a recent letter to General Grant with the sincero wish-"May we be hung together or alike enjoy peace increasing. " To which we all say, amen. "Lot ns have peace I" P. T. Barnum, after four years of diligent searching after curiosities, is about to establish a colossal museum, menagerie and circus, with which ho proposes traveling through the country.
