Uno hundred miles further down tho rivor
is a point which I would profer to Palatka, as
tho temperature is moro even and tho air dry
aud bracing. Mollonville aud Enterprise aro
located thero. I should givo a decided pre?
ference to Mellon ville, lt IB two miles from
rivor or lake, audit seems almost Impossible
to tako cold there. Tho tables in Florida
might bo better, and patients complain at
titncB, but that is a good sign, na it indicates
a roturn of appetite, and when thia is thc case
they generally incrcaso in flesh, and then tho
lungs must heal.
Jacksonville, Hibernia, Green Cove, and
mauy other places in various parts of Florida,
can bo safoly recommended to consumptives
in winter. Sly reasons for saying so aro that
patients are less liable to take cold thcro than
where thero is a less even temperature, and it
ia not ncccsBary to say that where a consump?
tive person exposes himself to frequent colds,
ho is certain to dio shortly. Therefore, my
advico ?H, go well down into tho State, out of
the reach of prevailing EaBt winda and fogs.

are troubled with a torpid liver, a diaordcrcd
stomach, deranged bowols, sore throat or
cough, but for thoso whoso lungs aro diseased

For fifteen years prior to 18G9,1 waB profes?
sionally in New York, Boston, baltimore and
Philadelphia e very week, whero I saw and ex?
amined on an average live hundred patients a
week. A practico so extensive, embracing
ovory possible phase of lung disease, baa ena?
bled mo to nnnorBtand the disease fully, and
hence my caution in regard lo taking cold. A
person may tako vast quantities of "Schenck's
Pulmonic Syrup, Seaweed Tonic and Man
drako Pills,'' and yet die if ho does not avoid
taking cold.
In Florida, nearly everybody is using
Schenck's Mandrake Pille, for thc climato is
moro likoly to produco bilious habitu than
moro Northern latitudes. It ie a well estab?
lished fact that natives of Florida rarely die
of consumption, especially those of the South?
ern part. On tho other hand, in New Eng?
land, one-third, at least, oT tho population
dio of thia terrible disease. In tho Middle
States it doea not prevail so largely, still
thero aro many thousands of eases thero.
What a vast per centago of life would bo saved
if consumptives were aa easily alarmed in re?
gard to taking fresh cold aB they aro about
scarlet fever, small-pox, Ac. But they nre
not. They tako what they term a little cold,
wluch they aro credulous enough to believe
will wear off in a few days. They pay no at?
tention to it, and hence ii lays tho foundation
for another and another still, until the lungs
aro diseased beyond all hope for cure.
My advice to persona whoso lungs are
affected oven slightly ia, to lay in a atock of
Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup, Schenek'a Seaweed
Tonic and Schenck's Mandi ak o Pills and go
to Florida. I recommend these particular
medicines because I am thoroughly acquaint?
ed with their action. I know that where they
aro used in 8trict accordance with my direc?
tions, they will do tho work that ia required.
Thin accomplished, nature will do tho rest.
Tho physician who prescribes for cold, cough
or night-sweats, and then advises tho patient
to walk or ride out every day, will bo sure to
have a corpse on his hands before long.
My plan ia to givo my threo medicines, in
accordance with tho printed directions, ex?
cept in soma caaes whero a freer nae of the
Mandrake Pills ia necessary. My object is to
givo tone to tho stomach-to get up a good
appetite. It its always a good sign when a
patient begins to grow hungry. I have hopes
of such. With a relish for food and tho
gratification of that relish conies good blood,
and with it more flesh, which ia closely fol?
lowed by a healing of tho longs. Then tho
cough loosens and abates, the creeping chills
and clammy night-sweats no longer prostrate
and auuoy. aud tho patient gets well, provid?
ed ho avoids taking cold.
Now thero are many consumptives who have
not tho moana to go to Florida. The question
may be a?kcd, is thero no hopo for such'i
Certainly thcro is. My advico to auch ia, and
ever has been, to stay in a warro room during
tho winter, with a temperature of about
seventy degrees, which should bo kept
regularly at that point, by moana of a ther?
mometer. Let eueii a patient tako bia ex?
ercise within the limits of tho room by walk?
ing up and down as much as his strength wii!
permit, in order to keep up a healthy circula?
tion of tho blood. I have cured thousand*
by thia system, and can do ao again. Con?
sumption is au easily cured as any othoi
disease, if taken in time, and tho proper kine
of treatment is pursued. Tho fact standf
undisputed on record that 8chcnck'a Pulmo
nie Syrup, Mandrake Fills, and Seaweed Tonil
have cured very many of what Boomed to bc
hopeless cases of consumption. Oo when
you will, you will bo almost certain to linc
some poor consumptive who baa boon reacuct
from tho very jawa of death by their use.
So far as tho Mandrake Pills are concerned
everybody should keep a supply of thom m
hand. They act on the liver better than calo
mel, and leavo none of its hurtful effects be
hind. In fact, thoy aro excellent in all ease
