Subsequently:. ho moved to Kentucky,
where bis brother married. Having
quarreled with his brother about some
trifling matter, he deliberately entered
the dining-room with a gan and shot
him while he hold hts ohild upon his
knee. The murderer then fled to Tesos,
where, in a quarrel over the gambling
table, he stabbed and killed his brother
in-law. fie then removed to Montana
Territory, where his third viotim expired
at his hands. From Montana Best oame
to California. After mining in the
Northern part of the State for a short
time, he settled in San Joaquin County,
where his lout crime was committed and
expatiated."
The details of the wreck of tho
Varona, os they reach us, contain some
unusual elements of horror, even in
shipwreck. The passengers wero drown?
ed in their state-rooms, being caged, as
it were, by the waves bursting in tho
cabin door?; The captain and a number
of the crew, while escaping in their bout,
were caught foul of the rigging and went
down helplessly with tho ship. The
second mate and four men escaped after
dreadful sufferings.
