Also, submitted re? port on resolution relativo to liquidating past due indebtedness. On motion of Alderman Wallace, the Committee was instructed to report at next meeting at what rato certain unpro? ductive stockcan be disposed of, and ns to the feasibility of so doing. Alderman Wallace, from Committee on Water Works, reported that he had made verbal contract with James M. Crawford to supply the Water Works with 500 cordB of wood, at ?5 per cord, and submitted the same for ratification by Council. On motion, tho considera? tion of the subject was postponed tem? porarily. Alderman Denny, from Committee on Accounts, reported back the following accounts and recommended payment. On motion of Alderman Simons, the report of Committee on Ways and Means on petition for erecting four additional gas lamps on Richardson, from Laurel to Lumber streets, and one in front of post office, which bad been laid on the table, was taken up. On motton, tho Commit? tee was instructed to have tho lamps erected. Alderman Denny introduced the fol? lowing resolution, which was adopted: Resolved, That the notion of Council instructing tho City Attorney to take an appeal (from the decision of Judge S. "W. Melton) to the Supreme Court, in tho case of the State, ex. rel. J. M. Blakely and J. K. Friday TS. tho City Council of Columbia, bo and the samo is hereby re? scinded, and tho Clerk instructed to offi? cially notify the City Attorney of this action. On motion of Alderman Denny, tho Committee on Ways and Mean? was in? structed to consider and report upon the subject of licensing weighers and gunners. Alderman Wigg introduced tho follow? ing resolution, which was adopted: Resolved, That the City Clerk report at next regular meeting a list nf all the employees of the city-salary, by what authority employed, and in what work employed. Alderman Cooper introduced the fol? lowing resolution, which was adopted: Resolved, That the Chairman of Com? mittee on Streets be authorized to pur ohoso, at reasonable rates, broken gra? nite rook, &a., for making rook drain for streets. ' Alderman Goodwyn introduced tue following resolution, which wes adopted: Resolved, That rho Committee* ou Water Works bo instructed to examine into and report upon tho necessity of extension of wnter pipe on Richland street East of Richardson street. Alderman Wallnce introduced the following resolution, which was adopted: Resolved, That the Committeo on Alms House and City Hospital bo required to report quarterly, viz: March 31, June30, September 30, and December 31, thu number of inmates in tho institutions, nativity, number of days each has been maintained, tho total expense incurred in the support of each institution, and the average rate per quarter of maintain? ing each inmate. Tho consideration of tho report of Committee on Water Works, relativo to contract for wood, which bud been tem pararily postponed, wns resumed. Alderman Wallace introduced tho fol? lowing resolution : Resolved, That James M. Crawford be awarded the contract for supplying 500 cords of wood to the Water Works, nt $5 per cord. On this Alderman Wigg called for tho yeas and uuys, which were taken, and are as follows: Yeas -; nays 9. Notagreed to. Those who voted in the negativo are his Honor the Mayor; Aldermen Cooper, Denny, Hayno, Goodwyn, Mooney, Smith, Simons and Wigg.
