Tho incendiary bands were composed of idle and worthless persons. The Governor, who is an experienced ?Didier, speedily suppressed the erneute, and many bf the parsons concerned in it tried to escape to the neighboring Eng? lish island of St. Lucia, bnt were pre? vented. In about six days after the out? break, the insurgents, who were esti? mated to number, about 400, were en-1 tirely dispersed,- 'captured, and some of them killed. Eugene Lacaille, tho prin? ciple ringleader, was captured on tho lat of October. On the 3d inst., the voianteere that had been called out were disbanded,* and the prisoners were under I trial by a military commission. The island ia now quiet. FORTY ACRES AND A MTJ_E.-The only colored man we know of in South Caro li?a t!*iat has received forty acres and a mule, lives about three miles from Wiansboro. This land and mule was p?eaen^ed to him ,by his old-master, for hts good condnot and honesty. His old master was a candidate for County Com? missioner nt the last election, on the Union Reform ticket, when lol and be? hold 1 the colored man to whom he had presented the land and mule, voted the square out-and-out radical ticket against him.- Winnsboro Nevsa. A woman went to a circus in Terre, Indiana, accompanied by eleven chil? dren, and when a neighbor asked her where the old man was, she said he was at home taking caro of the children. Another neighbor called at the house, and seeing the old man trying to amnso nine young ones, asked where the old lady was. He said he had let her go to the oirous with the children. A curious typographical error recently appeared, in a morning paper. In giv? ing an account of an inquest, it was ? stated, "the deceased bore an accidental character, and the jury returned a ver? dict of excellent death." They have Content in Texas.
