The nows received here Friday even? ing, of troubles at Laurens Court House, produced deep feeling in the community. The report that Governor Scott designed to send ap the two negro companies have created much excitement, which was increased by the unusual display of colored uniforms and guns on tho street. About 9 o'clock P. M., a gentleman from Governor Scott's office brought the assurance that no colored companies would be sent from Columbia. This led to public quiet. We learu that Messrs. H?ge and Hobbard went up to Newberry, Friday night, and remained an hour or two. We have heard of several inflammatory remarks which should be brought to notice. One case we intend to bring forward. A gentle? man informed UB that he heard Mr. J. B. Dennis, otherwise known as "General," eay to a crowd of colored meu, in refer? ence to the affair at Laurens, that they onght io take their Winchester rifles, and go and kill these people off, &o., ?C. Mr. Donuts, we believe, has some official connection with tho Adjutant General's office here. As he is so belli? gerent, we hope that Governor Scott will seud him, at least, to the front. , mm ? We leam that the excitement hus sub? sided at Laurens, and that all is quiet. It is reported that five white and three oolored men were killed in the difficulty i that occurred; and that the firing, which ! resulted in the death of these men, com- i monced between a citizen and a member of the State constabulary. Oar infor? mant states that the United States troops sont to Laurens will be received with satisfaction, as the community desire law and order. The whole difficulty, it is claimed, resulted from the armiug of th? oblored people. This led the whites, in self-defence, to arm themselves, i Hence, the firing, and the result ' ? ^ .???? There is no doubt that Lexington will go Beform by 600 or 700. Anderson voted 3,483; of these 2,088 are white, and 1,397 colored. Carpen? ter and Butler's majority will bo fully 400; County delegates to tho Legislature have less majorities, on account of inde? pendent candidates. A correspondent of tho News, writing from Williamsburg, says: "It is probable that the radicals have carried the day by a small majority. Wo have greatly reduced their majority. At the last elections they had about 1,800 majority. Now they will not get that many votes iu the County." A SOUTH CAROLINIAN ABKOAD.-In tho Baily Democrat, published at Brownvillr, Nebraska, wo notice the recent electiou to the Nebraska ^Senate of E. W. Tho? mas, Esq., formerly of Charleston, S. C. Senator Thomas was elected on the De? mocratic ticket. He is a son of tho late Rev. Edward Thomas, and a brother of Dr. T. Gaillard Thomas, of New York. AN ARKANSAS "LOCAL."-An Arkansas "local," becoming incensed at. some re? marks of a brother quill-driver in tho same town, concerning his personal appearance, lauuohes tho following tub full of Arkansian editorial lightning at his confrere's head : "The volcanic, pimple-headed, blister brained, owl-faced, spiked-nose, weasel faced, web-footed, peg-legged, lilipu tian, foggy pettifogger of the Bugle-IJorn of Liberty does not like our personal appearance. Tho majority of the regiment, however, hus already departed, via Charleston. Ono compauy of the Eighteenth departed for Laurens yesterday. Henry Browne, a son of Rev. S. H. Browno, of this city, accidentally caught aud broke his arm in tho machinery of a press in his father's office, yesterday. Yesterday morning, while on the way to the tiro, the new truck of the Pheonix Hook au'l Ladder Company broko down completely; but tho members, not dis? couraged, seized their axes and hurried along-leaving a long, thin man in charge of tho frame. Thc House of Representatives of the State is composed of 124 members, and, as a two-thirds voto is required for mak? ing au appropriation, a Reform minority of forty-two members, standing squarely together, will be able to givo the people some measure of protection against the intrigues of tho ring. United States Commissioner Jauuey has issued six warrants for fraudulent voting. The accused aro all negroes. Fifty-three other cases are ready for him, and many others will be found to? night. A rapid dischargo of mmkotry, last night, about 8 o'clock, created some ex? citement, and upon inquiry it was found to have originated from a misunderstand? ing hetweeu tho colored guard around tho University Chapel and some of the soldiers of tho garrison. Nono of tho participants, wo believe, were seriously injured, but a passer-by mndo a narrow escape. The People's Literart/ Companion, for November, comes to us as bright and us fresh looking as tho green fields aro after a gentle rain. It is published by E. C. Allen ?- Co., Augusta, Maine.
