pledge ourselves to an economical and
honest administration of the Govern?

parish and muuicipal corporations on
the subject of taxation.
3. That a general amnesty, removiug
all past political disabilities, should be
adopted.
4. That all useless offices shall be
abolished.
5. That all laws creating monopolies
and granting to individuals and incorpo?
rations exclusive rights aud privileges,
should be repealed.
6. That our citizens of foreign birth
aro entitled to the same rights and priv?
ileges as those born on tho soil, aud all
laws discriminating betwecu them, aud
requiring from them oxtrnordinary oaths
and other evidenoes of citizenship, are
odious, insulting and oppressive, aud
ought to be repealed.
7. That we pledge ourselves to uso our
best efforts to secure to tho whole peo?
ple a fair, quiet and peaceable election.
THE COMMENCEMENT OF A NEW ERA IN*
GEORGIA MANUFACTURES.-Wo noticed,
some days ago, the expected arrival at
Savannah, por steamship Virgo, of a
number of immigrants, composed of
weavers and operatives, with their fami?
lies, destined for the Englo nud Phouix
Mills of Columbus, Georgia. Tho Sa?
vannah News, of Monday, gives the fol?
lowing details of this important arrival:
"They arrived ou Saturday by tho
Virgo, and include sixty-six of tho finest
and intelligent men nud women wo have
ever seen; hale, hearty and full of that
good humor which distinguishes men
who have a secure place in which to
work out their position as honored citi?
zens of the Empire State. Tho immi?
grants wore accompanied by a number
of fine looking children, intelligent aud
hearty, their rosy cheeks suggestive of
health, nnd their genial bright looks of
honesty and integrity. Messrs. Wm.
Henry Woods & Co., to whom tho list
was consigned, met them nt the wharf,
supplied their immediate wauts, and
they wero transported by them to their
homo in Columbus. We can congratu?
late the Eagle aud Phoenix Mills on this
advent of good mon, women nud chil?
dren to their material force, and thc
State of Georgia and its manufactories
upon the introduction of skilled and iu
telligent labor. Tho men will prove
good citizens, and the childrcu will be
heard from in the future development of
the interests of the State. We can only
add to other manufacturing interests,
'Go thou aud do likewise.' "
Louis NAPOLEON'S MEMORY.-Napo?
leon III has an extraordinary memory
for names, figures, faces and miscellane?
ous facts. A Gorman prof essor, who
waB called to Paris in counectiou with
the publication of tho "Vie de C:esa.r,"
relates that it was Napoleon's invariable
habit, on having communicated to him a
name or number, or auy brief fact which
he wished to remember, to writo it down
in a note-book kept exclusively for that
purpose, and which always lay upou his
desk. After writing down the memo?
randum, he would tear the leaf out of
the book, read it over once attentively,
and then tear the leaf up. And he told
the professor that after impressing a
fact on his mimi by this process, he
never forgot it. The key to this extra?
ordinary faculty of memory doubtless
lies in the fact that, during his long
years of imprisoumeut, in early life, ho
did not dare to cary important memo?
randa about him. He was obliged to
rely on his memory; but that he did uot
at first trust it altogether, is seen by the
fact that, through tho force of habit, he
is still obliged to make sure of a fact by
writing it down, and KO fixing it iu his
mind, instead of trusting entirely to the
seuse of hearing to act upon his memory.

DEAR Sins: During a residence of some ten
years as a missionary in Siam and China, I
found your Vegetable Pain Killer a most valu?
able remedy for that fearful scourge, Cholera.
In administering the medicine, I found it
most effectual to give a teaspoonful of Pain
Killer in a gill of hot water, sweetened with
sugar; then, after about fifteen minutes, begins
to givo about a teaspoonful of tho same ??ix-j
