VIENNA, September 15.-The Chamber
of Deputies was opened. The Deputies
from Bohemia are absent. Richrath

PAULS, September 15.-To-day, Thiers
received further instructions, nod hopes
are entertained of a successful result.

advices state that the collision between
the Italians aud the Zouaves, ueur the

Italians have roached Corronto, nour
Civita Vecchia. Tho Italians, doubtless,
to-day, occupy Villetri and Valmontres,
walled towns, twenty-seven miles South
of Rome.
LONDON, September 16.-The King of
Prussia rejects American mediation.
Bancroft writes that Washburue can only
remain ns n spectator of thc conflict.
Washburne, communicating the above
to Favre, adds;-he can only record his
protest to this impious war.

MONTREAL, September 15.-At the in?
ternational boat race the weather was
fine. Two crews sailed, tho Tyne crew
naked to tho waist. The St. John's crow
wore fancy shirts. After a few sweeping
strokes tho Tyuo led ata hundred yaids,
aud increased thu lead a quarter of a
mile. The St. Johu's drew up, but the
Tyne put ou a tremendous spurt, tho
boat jumping out of tho water at every
stroke. At the half-milo the Tyne was a
length ahead, aud gradually creeping for?

THE GARDEN OF EDEN.-A traveler iu

deu of Eden is, according to tradition,
located at tho junction of the Euphrates
and Tigress, at HU Arab village called
Korneh. Scattered along tho bank are
about two hundred houses, made of reed

built for a telegraph station! It is (well

modern progress has penetrated those
countries of tho East which have been
long in decay, and they aro doubtless

a single person for ono year to produce
a single square yard of the tapestry, and
i tis always worked from tho back-ground,
while thu front is covered. Each tint is
formed from single threads, aud the
covering is only removed in places to
determine tho proper blending of colors.
Advices from Shaughao to August 12th
stato that the French Minister had caused
the release of the imprisoned Christian
