woman?" "Well, yes," replied the
steward, "bat what of that? hasn't a
fellow a right to embrace his wife?"

for," replied the stranger, dancing
around, "that's my Wife, and I have
. stood it so long that I've got madl"
A correspondent writes from Portland,
Oregon: "One morning, ns I sat at
breakfast with the door opon, I saw a
sight that could not be witnessed in any
Eastern city. Direotly opposite are a
barber , shop, rna by negroes, and a
laundry, operated by Cinnamon. The
Africans and Montgoliuns were airing
themselves outside. Along carno aa
Indian with his squaw and half-grown
papoose, and in the opposite direction
two Oauoasian8 and an Irishmau. The
five races, with their respectivo divi?
sions-Europe, Asia, Africa and Amo
rioa."
A man at Elizabeth, N. J., heard that
by rubbiag kerosene oil on his fuce the
mosquitoes would not bit o him. Ho put
some on, and then thought ho would
take a smoke before retiring. As he lit
hia pipe, a slight explosion was heard,
and he was picked up out of tho yard
and extinguished. His family WSB left
in quite destitute circumstances.
An exehnnge says there is ono thing
can always be found, and that is fault.
