WHITTEMOKE'S LITTLE GAME.-The re?
markable spirit of self-saori?oe exhibited
by B. F. Whittemore recently, in with
drawiogfrom the Congressional canvass in
South Carolina, has been daly comment?
ed upon by his numerous admirers in the
radical party. The noble alaority with
which he proposed to save the party iu
that State by immolating himself, liai
been compared by a local organ to the
conduct of Curtius in a certain crisis in
the history of Rome. Those who knew
the reverend adventurer better, however,
have been satisfied that ho was playing
various little games which the public
were in the dark about. It has leaked
out now that he is arranging to huve
himself elected United States Senator in
place of Robertson, whoso term expires
next Maroh. As a means toward this
end he hos announced himself as a can?
didate for the State Senate, in which
body he can best manipulate his busi?
ness. Whittemore as United States
Senator would undoubtedly damage his
own party materially, and if the country
must bo cursed with radical Senators wo
presume tho Democrats would rather
prefer tho cadetshiu broker us one of the
representatives of that party; but un?
fortunately for him ho has neglected to
take into account tho possiblo election of
a conservativo Legislature in tho fall.
The prospects are indeed good for a com?
plete political rovolution in tho Palmetto
State, tho misdeeds of such wen as Scott
and "Whittomore convincing eveu thc
negroes that the oarpet-bng burden is
breaking the backs of tho people.

and can honestly sr.y that I consider it a boon
to suffering females, and can but hopo that
every lady in our whole laud, who may be suf?

may be restored to health and strength.

CHOLERA I-The following letter is from
Mr. Woodward, of St. Louis, to J. N. Harria,
Eeq., of Now Loudon. Conn. Mr. W. ia a gen?
tleman of high respectability, and during the
prevalence of thc cholera in St. LOU?H,
watched the result of tho application of tho
l'ain Killer for this disease, and his testimony
can bo relied upon willi the utmost confidence:
DEAR SUI: YOU recollect when I saw you in
January laat, my expressing lo you my moat
sanguine expectations that Lavis' 1'AIN
KILLER would have a tremendous sale in tho
Weat this season, and my anticipations have
been moro than realized, and the testimony
of thousands who have used it has been that
they would not be willing to go to bcd at night
without it in tho house.
Ou thc appearance of the cholera in this
city, such was thc confidence in thc Rain
Killer as a remedy, that many who purchasod
it remarked to mo that they had no fears or
dread ol tho cholera, aB long as they had tho
Rain Killer by them, and hundreds took it
daily as a preventative, for no person can
have a derangement of tho bowels or diar?
rhoea, if they UBO this medicino. This WBB
the security" and confidence of hundreds
acquainted with it, and when their friends
were attacked with tho Cholera, they would
administer tho remedy in largo quantities,
and In every caso when it has heen taken in
any of tho first stages of this disease, it has
proved successful.
1 consider it an infallible remedy. I have
not heard of any individual in any family who
used the Pain Killer wheu attacked, but
speedily recovered.
The clerk informed me that ho administer?
ed it to persons when cold or in thc cramps,
and it gave immediate relief, but still it
should be given quickly, for when the dis?
charge of "rico water" has begun, tho hope
ot lifo has fled. Should this disease make its
appearance among vou, af: in all probability it
will, bo not alarmed; you and all othorB there
have tho remedy, and 1 nm confident if the
Pain Killer is used, not a Bingle death by cho?
lera will occur in your cit v. Respectfully
yours, * A. T. WOODWARD.
