WATERING-PLACE COMFORTS.-The following, though extravagant, contains one important reason why many do not frequent watering-places, and those 'who go remain for so short a time-they are not made as comfortable as they are at home: It is said that a man, who was staying J at one of the Capo May hotels lost week, woke np one morning and couldn't find his pillow anywhere Just as ho was about giving up the search, he put his hand to his head, and fonnd that tho pillow bad got jammed into his oar. The regulation allowance at a Cape May hotel is one feather for a pillow, and two for a j bolster. The present war must add largely to the already gigantic debt of France. As soon as war was declared the Minister of Finance asked for a supplemental credit of 600,000,000 franca, and this is likely to be but a small part of what will be needed. The debt of Prussia is very small-much the smallest of any of the great powers of Europe. At the recent railway accident in England, the dead and wounded were plundered indiscriminately. Tho tempt? ing display of rings, watches, &c, over? came all humanity, and even policemen lent the wreckers their aid in despoiling the corpses.
