Mr. Ruskin should inform himself of the quantity of crockery smashed on Indies' tables and iu ladies' ohambers, in the Sooth, by Sherman's and Sheridan's "bummers" during the late rebellion, and whether the gentle owners of the same were moro inclined, after such in? vasions, to have the war stopped than they were to have it continued until suitable vengeance should be meted out to those "Yankee hordes." Tho truth is, that-tho women of the South were quite as much for war-and, when brought to the test, generally quite as brave and enduring-as the men on that side. But perhapa Mr. Ruskin would not includo this in his list of "civilized countries." One of the IateBt Acts of Congress was to grant Mrs. Lincoln her pension of $3,000 for life. The bill was promptly approved by tho President, and hence? forth that national scaudul is at rest.
