The Buffalo Courier tells a story of
Mr.3. J ano Larkin, a native of Ireland,
who, at the age of 106 years, has come
to this country, at the urgent request of
ber four sons, only to find on her arrival
that since tho day of ber sailing, three
of these young men bavo met with a vio?
lent death, and the fourth, it is feared,
bas shared the samo fate. Ono of the
boys was killed in an elevator in Buffalo;
another on a steamboat; the third in a
railroad collision; while the fourth, who
left Buffalo for the West, has not since
been beard from.
A two-story frame building, occupying
three-fourths of a block on "Warren,
Morgan and Bay streets, Jersey City,
was destroyed by fire on the 1st. The
building was owned by the Atlant ie and
Great Western Bailway Company, and
occupied by H. Leslie, as a boiler manu?
factory; Cummings &. Co. 's car shop, and
J. McMahon's cooperage. Total loss
$62,000.
At a mutch race of currier pigeons,
during the last month, two pigeons flew
a distance of 700 miles in less than eight
hours. They were let loose iu thc morn?
ing, at 6 o'clock, in Pesth, Hungary,
and arrived at 2 o'clock p. m., at Co?
logne, although in au ex bans ted condi?
tion.
A Fortland darkey called at a drag
store for a "settler powder." Tho seid
litz was duly prepared, and its uso ex?
plained, but he drank thc two solutions
separately. When tho boiling fluid
foamed from his nose .and mouth, ho
yelled: "My stomach's bust, I can't live
a minute," and bolted from the store.

married woman near Shanghai, recently,
bad formed a guilty alliance, and con?

A recent alarm of fire in Philadelphia
