opponeuts of the Angelo-French com

delivered a violent speech against thc
treaty, in which ho stated that he was a
cotton manufacturer aud merchant of
Manchester, and was able to show tho
unfavorable effects of tho treaty ou tho
cotton trade of Great Britain. After
speeches by other persons, resolutions
were unanimously adopted, denouncing
tho treaty as the cause of tho industrial
proclamation, and calling ministers to
account for denying an investigation of
tho subject. Tho meeting was large aud
harmonious.
The financial editor of tho Times thinks
that specie shipments from New York
for a few days will bo uuusually heavy.

ship Tennessee, which left this port for

covered to be on fire, in tho lower hold,
forty miles North-east of Oape Romain,
last evening. Captain Chichester ran in
for the shore and scuttled the steamer,
in ten feet water. The passengers and
crew were safely landed on the beach.
The weather was clear. The steamer
City Point has left hero to go to the assist?
ant of the passengers, and the revenue
cutter Wm. H. Seward left Wilmington
for the sumo purpose. The Tennessee is
valued at $250,000, and is one of the fine
new iron steamers recently added to the
New York line. Tho company will put
another steamship on the line nt once.
