How TO EXPEL. EATS.-A gentleman
informa us that a sure remedy for abo?
lishing rats and mico from a house, is to
shoot off a revolver so as it may come
?within the hearing of these pests. In
every instance, we will warrant them to
leave for "parts nnknown." Persons
whose houses are infested with them,
would do well to give the above a trial,
aa it is mu oh more desirable to frighten
them away than to poison them during
the warm weather.
An Iowa paper, having inserted an
item relating that a woman of that State
had helped her husband to raise seventy
aores of wheat, and noticing the item
copied by its ezohanges under an evi?
dent misapprehension of faots, now ex?
plains that the way she helped was to
stand in the door and shake a broom nt
him when he sat down to rest, and terri?
fying him in other ways.
"What is the size of this place?"
gravely asked a New Yorker of the con
dnotor, just after the brakoman had sung
ont: O-pe-li-ka! at a Southern station,
where not a house was visible omoug the

..Eating Saloon." "It's about as big as
New York," was the ready answer, "but
it isn't built up yet."
A few days since, a drunken man cropt
into a stable in Meriden, Gonn., and lay
down in tho horse's bed of olean straw,
to sleep off his potations. When disco?
vered, he was laying at full leng'h under
the horse's belly, the animal standing
with legs distended, to avoid hurting the
drunken sleeper.
Fanny Fern wishes this sentence of
hers put into the crowns of the gentle?

ence now and thon than your sulky,
stupid donkey, whose rhieoceros back

A Pittsburg gaming case was explained
io the jury by ooular demonstration, a
laying-out being placed on the table, the
witness dealing, and the district attorney
coppering the ace. He broke the bank,
and the jurors understood it.
With drums, pans, horns and bells, the
women of Waterloo, Wis., "drummed
out of town" one Jacob Oakieaf, a chro?
nic abuser of his family.
"Foundlings' Bank, 100 per cent, in?
terest, payable in Heaven," is one of the
departments of a New York foundling
asylum.
