granting a pension to tho surviving sol?
diers and sailors of tho war of 1812, with
an amendment including tho widows who

The bill to reduce internal taxes was
taken up and an amendment added, that
no national bank should bo compelled to
act as a depository of public funds louger
than they may cloct. After disposing of
several paragraphs, tho House adjourned
until Tuesday.

tives have been much excited to-day over
rumors that the commissioners of elec?
tion, who are now counting tho votes,
have discovered enough illegal ballots to
insure the eleotion of Ellyson. It is
certain that a good many marked ballots
have been thrown out. but tho commis?
sioners decline to give particulars. It is
also said tho voto in tho precinct where
the ballot-box was stolon, and where
Chahoon had a largo majority, hus been
thrown out. The commissioners have
adjourned till Monday.
NORFOLK, May 28.-Official returns of
the municipal election give John B.
Whitehead, conservative candidato for
Mayor, thirty-eight majority. The con?
servatives elected twenty-eight of tho
thirty-seven Councilmeu and tho whole
ticket, except Commissioner of Revenue,
Keeper of Alms House, Inspector of
Streets and Clerk of Market. It is un?
derstood that tho radicals will make an
effort to have the election sot aside, on
tho ground of fraud nnd intimidation.
