place in a special train to New York,

seventy miles an hour. Vanderbilt ran
a train from Rochester to Syracuse, last
Sunday week, eighty-one miles, in one
hour and thirty minutes.
During tho weok ending Maj' 14th,
thero were thirty deaths in Charleston
fourteen whites and sixteen blacks.
