A PARADISE OV OFFICE-HOLDERS.
Franoe ia tho partulieo of ollie ?-holders.
There are 85,000 rural guards,, 13.000
gendarmes, 28,000 primary school-mas?
ters, 30,000 privato guarde, 80,000 cus?
toms' agents, 10,000 foresters, 6,000
polioe agents, 8,000 justices of tho ponce,
3,450 judges, at least 36,000 tobacco
dealers, (appointed by the Government,)
and any number of constables, notaries,
and pensioners.
EUROPEAN RAILWAYS.-Europe, soys
the Engineering Magazine, contains 70,
718 milos of railway, composed of 150,
000,000 owt. of iron rails, on which'
400,000 passenger carriages and 600,000
baggage cars aro dragged by 18,000 loco?
motives, over 52,000 bridges, through
thirty-four miles of tunnels, at a cost of
$60,000,000 per annum, with a consump?
tion of 4,000,000 tons of coal.
A WONDERFUL MEDICINAL SFKIXO DIS?
COVERED.-The Tampa (Fin.) Peninsula
soya a spring with wonderful medicinal
properties hus been discovered nour that
place. The waters of this spring readily
care Eora legs and restore hair to the
bald-headed. This beats any quack me?
dicine.
A man at LaGrango, Indiana, has sued
thirty-six oitizens for presenting him
with a new suit of clothes. He didn't
like the material, which was mixed
goods, feathers and tar, and such things.
He had borrowed a sheep-skin with a
horso nnder it.
There are many amusing definitions in
oar exchanges of tho word "plebisci
tum." We think the best explanation
comes from an Indiana editor, who
thinks it's a new kind of "French bis?
cuit," some like a Boston cracker. Tho
Hoosier can take the heit.
The name chiefly objected to in the
pending Sonate disability bill was Mr.
Patrick Henry Aylett, who, by tho re?
cent calamity at Richmond, 'has been
placed far beyond tho reach of any
malice.
High Point, N. C., has been lately
brought into notoriety by the birth of
twin children joined together as tho
Siamese Twius, but the doctor cut the
cord, and they have since beeu buried.
They say an Idaho girl puts on style
because she cleans her teeth with the
batt end of a blaoking-brush. She says
she was brought up to be neat, and don't
caro what folks think.
QUANT'S IDIOSYNCRACY.-That radical
light, tho Chicago Tribune, says that
President Grant has one defect of cha?
racter rarely met with in high places
an inexplicable respect for rich men.
Baltimore loafers, standing on the
street corners, are at once arrested and
incarcerated in a dungeon. New York
ditto.
In Paris they have gone off from horse?
flesh to violets. The Parisian epicures
are eating these fried in butter and su?
gar.

of diseases of tho Kidneys and JUadder. Ju
these Affections, il is as near a specific as any
remedy can be. It docs ita work kindly, silently,
ami surely. Tho Relief which it a fib rda ia both
certain and perceptible.
DISEASES OF THE KIDNEYS AND
BLADDER.
Persona unacquainted with the structure
and functions of tho Kidneys, cannot estimato
tho importunerai their healthy action.
Regular and sufficient action of the Kidneys
is as important, nay, even more so, than regu?
larity of tho bowels. Tho Kidneys remove
from tho blood those (.flote mattera which, if
permitted to remain, would speedily destroy
lifo. A total suspension of the urinary dis?
charges will occasion death from thirty-six tc
forty-eight boura.
When tho Urine ia voided iu small quanti?
ties at tho time, or when there is a disposition
to Urinate more frequently than natural, or
when the Urine ia high colored or scalding,
with weakness in the amall of tho back, it
should not bo trilled with or delayed, but
Koakoo should bo taken at once to remedy the
difficulty, before a lesion of tho organs takes
place. Most of tho diseases of tho Bladder
originate from those of the Kidneys, tho Urine
being imperfectly secreted in the Kidneys,
provo irritating to the Bladder and Urinaiv
passages. When wo recollect thal modioino
never reaches the Kidneys except through tho
general circulation of the Blood, we see how
ncccsBary it ia to keep the Fountain of Life
Puro.
