EUROPEAN RAILWAYS.-Europe, soys the Engineering Magazine, contains 70, 718 milos of railway, composed of 150, 000,000 owt. of iron rails, on which' 400,000 passenger carriages and 600,000 baggage cars aro dragged by 18,000 loco? motives, over 52,000 bridges, through thirty-four miles of tunnels, at a cost of $60,000,000 per annum, with a consump? tion of 4,000,000 tons of coal. The name chiefly objected to in the pending Sonate disability bill was Mr. Patrick Henry Aylett, who, by tho re? cent calamity at Richmond, 'has been placed far beyond tho reach of any malice. High Point, N. C., has been lately brought into notoriety by the birth of twin children joined together as tho Siamese Twius, but the doctor cut the cord, and they have since beeu buried. They say an Idaho girl puts on style because she cleans her teeth with the batt end of a blaoking-brush. She says she was brought up to be neat, and don't caro what folks think. QUANT'S IDIOSYNCRACY.-That radical light, tho Chicago Tribune, says that President Grant has one defect of cha? racter rarely met with in high places an inexplicable respect for rich men. Baltimore loafers, standing on the street corners, are at once arrested and incarcerated in a dungeon. New York ditto. In Paris they have gone off from horse? flesh to violets.
