A railroad train was rushing'along nt
almost lightning speed. A curvo wns just

The battle of Waterloo was being
fought. Column after column had been

it was necessary to carry tho position
with ono final charge. A. powerful corps
had beeu summoned from across the
country. Tho great conqueror, confident
of its arrival, formed his reserve iuto au

the hill. The whole world knows tho re?
sult. Napoleon died a prisoner at St. He?
lena, because ono of his marshals ".vas
behind time.
A coudeninert mau was bciug led out
for execution. He had taken human life,
but under circumstances of the greatest
provocation. Thousands had signed pe?
titions for a reprieve; still none had ur
rived. Tho last moment was up. Tho
prisoner took his place on the drop-a
lifeless body swung in the wiud. Just at
this moment a horseman carno into sight,
his steed covered with foam. Ho was
the person with the reprieve. But he
had come too late. A comparatively in?
nocent mau had died au ignominious
death, because a watch had been five mi?
nutes two slow, making its time to arrive
behind time.
It is continually so in life. Tho best
laid plaus aro daily sacrificed because
somebody is "behind time." There aro
men who always fail in what they under?
take, simply because they are "behind
time." There aro others who put off re?
formation year by year, till death seizes
them, and they perish nurepentaut, be?
cause forever "behind time."
Reader, oak yourself seriously the ques?
tion, whether tbero is not some danger
of your being among this olnss? Them
will be thousands of souls in tho place of
woe because they put off the thought of
eternity till it was too late. Oh, it is
sad to think there will be some there for
this, who were ouco living amongst us!
