years ago by 2E-<op. It bas a very
palpable application to matters in this
oountry :
4*A certain mau having bought a
blackamoor, was so simple 113 to think
that the color of hiB skin was only dirt
and filth, which he had contracted for
want of due care uuder his former
master. This fault, ho imagined, might
easily be removed. So he ordered the
pool black to bo put into a tub, and was
at considerable charge in providing
ashes, soap nud scrubbing brushes for
th9 operation. To woik they went,
rubbing and scouring his t-kin nil over,
but to uo manner of pXirposo, for when
they had repeated their washings several
times, nud were grown quite weary, all
they got by it was, that the wretched
blackamoor caught cold und died."
If that is not the best illustration of
the Bifteenth amendment extant, we
should like tu know what surpasses it.
