MORMONS.-We have tho report from Great Salt Lake City, that on tho arrival there, on. Wednesday last, of the new Governor for Utah, (Shaffer,) and the other new State officers accompanying him, appointed by Gen. Grant, they re? ceived a rousing welcome, and that after they had flatly told the assembled citi-1 zens that their mission was to suppress polygamy, there were great rejoicings, including bonfires, fire-works, a parade I a?d on illumination of the city. All this shows that the Gentiles aro getting to be a powerful party at the Mormon capital, or that the saints have hud a new revela? tion. It does not appear that Brigham Yoong took any part in the proceedings, but he will have to define his position very soon. We should pot wonder if he, too, in due season, should ditolose a new revelation, instructing him to depart] with his people out of Egypt; and this will probably be the settlement of the Mormon question. PROFESSOR SAOHTLEHEN.-We are grati . fled to announce that this estimable gen? tleman and eminent teaoher, who has won so enviable a name throughout this and neighboring States by his ripe scho? larship and signal success as a professor in the State University, has returned from his visit to California, having found no more eongenial and inviting field foi his rare talents iban is presented by our good old city. Professor Sachtleben is now making arrangements, by which he expects, within a week or ten days, to open a first-class classical and practical school for youths. He will certainly be a great acquisition to the educational ad? vantages of Charleston. [Charleston News. The County Treasurer's office, at New? port, ;Vermillion County, Ind., was rob? bed on the 19th instant of $30,000. The sheriff and posse pursued and compelled the burglars to swim the Wabash to es? cape, in Which one of them throw off his clothing, whioli was secured, and found to contain $16,000 of the stolen money. A terrible affair was enacted in Mid? dleton, N. Y.. on tho 25th. A man named Chas. Snyder, living on Water Street, cut his wife's throat with a razor, and then, with the same instrument cut his own.
