WASHINGTON, April 9.-The effect of
the proceedings before Judge Chase, as j
understood by the lawyers, restrains

allows proceedings in other cases. Judge
Chase will be present May 1, to hear the
ease whether the Judge's bond will be
confirmed or not.
The Supreme Court rules that no case
decided shall be re-opened, unless ouo of
the ooncurring justices desires the re?
opening.
A movement is on foot to reloase dis
tillers of fruit from the requirements of
the present law, which is not applicable
to their mode of distillation. Distillers
who do not renew their licenses on the
1st of May, are liable to suizuro as illicit.

The Reconstruction Committee heard
Senter, Governor of Tennessee. He
was non-committal; the only suggestion
he threw out was, that if the Govern?
ment furnished him troops, he could
maintain the peace. Senter will be
heard again on Tuesday, when he will be
subjected to a rigid examination, with
the view of eliciting facts.
The House appropriated $2,000 from
its oontingent fund to reimburse Butler's
expense in defending himself against
Wsoley, whom Butler's impeachment
committee subpoenaed.
The Senate is considering the subsidy
for a steamship line between San Fran?
cisco and Australia.
