Karl Honked his handkerchief in Eau

She drew a long sigh, and the blue eyes
opened. She looked at her lover, and a
soft blush came to the face whioh had
boen recently so deadly pale.
"Do you know me, Jolie?"
"It is Karl's voice," she said; "it is
Karl himself. My own Karl, come back
to me."
"Would to God I had never left you,
my darling."
"It would have been better, perhaps
-but we cannot tell. We must not
grieve over the past. It is irrevocable.
Bat you will never leave me again?"
"No, no." Karl wiped his moistened
eyes and turned away his fsoe to conceal
his emotion.
"Karl," were the next murmured

doubt, for Frank had told him, himself,
and that the wedding would take place
very soou. He told mo also of his own
engagement to that -fiend incarnate.
Once or twice, a suspicion of what bas
proved to be the truth, flashed across my
mind, but remembering, Juliet, you had
promised never to remove the ring from
yonr finger, I rejected the thought, con?
cluding I was a great fool for my pains,
and that my happiness was wrecked as a
deserved punishment, for having placed
faith in a woman's word."
