struction Committee heard six yellow
men from Tennessee, regarding affairs
in that State. They make a black
record. A further bearing postponed to

The House Election Committee re?
ported Hunt not, but Sheldon entitled
to a ?eat. There is a reverse minority
report. Sheldon introduced a resolu?
tion looking to the disposal of the Ne .v
Orleans mint and Custom House.
In the Sonate, a bill protecting pre?
emption titles of settlers on public land
in Alabama, who vacated them during
the war, was introduced.
In the Senate, Mr. Wilson presented
a memorial from negro slaves of the
Chickasaw and Choctaw Indians, claim?
ing their freedom. The Georgia bill was
resumed, but there was no action. Tho
House deficiency appropriation hill was
passed. Sheldon's resolution was to sell
the mint and marine hospital, and not
the enstom house, at New Orleans. The
report on Butler's cadet corruption was
ordered to be printed. Tho tariff bill
was taken up, when the Senate ad?
journed.
The yellow delegation from Georgia
visited the fPresident to-day, and asked
him to uso his influence to defeat Bing?
ham's amendment; urged him to pro?
cure suitable legislation for the protec?
tion of tho colored people in Georgia.
They ignore the Bryant faction. Their
speeches were written, and boisterous?
ness characterized their delivery. Tho
President replied, in effect, that he
would protect the people in all tho
States, but thought special legislation
might bo necessary for tho Southern
States, owing to the uusettled coudition
arising from war.
Boutwell favors the continuation of
Delano in the Committee of Ways and
Means, and a modification of the in?
come tax.
The President's uniform answer to
delegations from Georgia and Tennessee
for troops, is: "No doubt of his right to
station troops at pleasure, and give dis?
affected districts the benefit of soldiers'
presence, but doubts how fur soldiers
could be used iu aid of the oivil authori?
ties." He will take legal advice in every
instance.
