In the House, the Committee on
Foreign Relations considered Cuba, but
took no notion. The Utah bill was dis?
cussed to the close of the morning hour.
Two bills relieving commerce were re?
ported and made the special order for
the third Tuesday in March.
Yanv?yok was sworn in. The appro?
priation bill was considered to adjourn?

The Ways and Means Committee re?
solved, to-day, to reduce the internal
revenue bill $30,000,000. The income
tax is to be reduced bnt not abolished. '
Grant and the administration favor a
reduction in the tariff of $20,000,000.
Efforts to fund the debt this year are to
bo abandoned.
Internal revenue receipts to-day $684,
000.

State to hold over until their successors
are elected or appointed. .
In the House, a bill was reported that
it is expedient to go into au election for
a United States Senator for the term
commencing March, 1871.
A joint resolution was adopted to fur?
nish au armed guard at the State prispn,
where munit y is threatened by the con?
victs, who are dissatisfied with the re?
moval of the late Superintendent.
ATLANTA, February 17.-The House
concurred in the following Senate r?so
lution:
Resolved, by the General Assembly,
that nil proceedings of tho several CourtB
of the State, founded ou any debt con
tracted prior to June 1, 1865, and all
levies and sales by virtue of any execu
tion so founded, shall be stayed until the
twenty days' recess shall have expired,
and in compliance with thc just demands
of tho people, earnestly appeal to Gen
Terry to sanction and enforce tho reso
lution after its approval by the Governor.
Both Houses adjourned to re-assemble
April 1.
MOBILE, ALA., February 17.-Price
still holds the courts and controls the
police. Harrington manages the cleri?
cal and legislative branch of the city
government. Tho test case mentioned
in yesterday's despatch, did not come
up ns expected, this morning. It is
stated that Harrington made a formal
demand for the surrender this morning,
but was refused. It is also reported that
Harrington would leave for Montgomery
to-day.
MONTGOMEBY, February 17.-Both
Houses have been endeavoring all day to
mako valid the bill to uproot the present
municipal government of Mobile. Har?
rington, the newly-appointed Mayor,
calls for soldiers, and the Governor posi?
tively refuses to send them. The Senate
bill to extend State aid, to the amount of
$16,000 a' mile, to all railroads in' the
State, and to allow the benefits of the
Act to be continued till November, 1871,
will pass the House to-morrow.

here, in the interest of his road.

A REVOLUTIONARY HERO FROM BALTI?
MORE.-John Kitts, of Baltimore, a sol?
dier of the Revolution, now residing in
Baltimore, culled to pay his respects to
the President. The veteran, with but
little assistance, walked up the long flight
of stairs leading to the President's office,
and, although 108 years of age, did not
complain of fatigue. The President re?
ceived the aged visitor with tho pro?
foundest respect, and listened to his con?
versation with tho deepest interest. He
alluded to the fact that ho had met every
President of the United States and wit?
nessed the surrender of Lord Cornwallis
at Yorktown.

veston and Austin to protect them. Since
the election is over, it seems as though

pany, in the said State, and having duly qual?
ified for said office, notice is hereby given that,
pursuant to orders heretofore passed in the
Court of Common Pleas for Laurens County,
in the said State, I will Bell to the highest
bidder, at public auction, the property of the
said Laurens Railroad Company, described as
follows: The Railroad of the said Company,
running from Newberry Tillage to Laurens -
viUe, including thc road-bed, right of way and
la.n?ls occupied by or belonging to th? said
Company, together with the several super?
structures and tracks thereon, and all rails
and other materials used on the samo, and
all and singular the Boveral bridges, viaducto
culverts, fences, depot grounds and buildings
theroon, station-houses, work-ehops, engines,
tenders, cars, tools, materials and machinery,
equipments and appurtenances of every kind,
and all the stock subscribed for hi the said
Company, and all other property belonging,
appertaining to, or in any manner eonneoted
with or forming a part of the said Laurens
Railroad Company, and all franchises, righto
and privileges of the said Laurens Railroad
Company, of, in, to, or concerning the same.
And upon such ?ale all equity of redemption
in the said premises shall be forever barred
and absolutely foreclosed.
The said sale shall take place at the State
House, in the city of Columbia, South Caro ?
lina, at 12 o'clock, meridian, on the 30th day
of March, in tbe present year, on the follow?
