Tao Salt Lake Telegraph, said tobe Brigham Young's organ, in its comments upon tba new Governor of Utah and Mr. O ul lo m's bill, says: "To the 'war ex? pectation now so prevalent in the East thore iran only lie- disappointment." "Wo tender Gen. Schaeffer the advice to pay no attention to tho folks down East on the question, but* to come out here when ho ia ready, mind hie own business, and he will get along well enough." But how if it fa mado his "business" by Congress to enforce tho laws against polygamy*? Tho. Telegraph adds : * 'There is enough of folly and outrage in the Cuilom bill to defeat its purpose." Whether the Mormons will fight, in the event that the Cuilom bill becomes a law, is a question on which some light is shed by the experience of fifteen years ago, when they gave proof of their wil? lingness and power to offer formidable resistance to the United States. They will certainly not give up polygamy, and must be mnch more saintly than we take them to be, if they retreat from Utah until they have given , the Government as much expense and j trouble in forcing them to let go their. Bold as possible. Whilst they would, bo crushed in the end, it is well enough, in the present state of our finances, to coant the cost of the undertaking before Mr. Cullom's bill is passed, and to consider whether, after all, the ugly excrescence of Mor? monism may not be expected to drop off before the pressure of expanding civili? zation in. the West, without resorting to the intervention of the sword. [Baltimore Sun, MB. HOAR'S FEBXINO OVES HIS REJEC? TION.-A little incident occurred in Washington, a few nights ago, which Socs to -show that the Attorney-General oes not bear bis rejection for the Su? preme Bench by the Senate with very good grace. At the last Friday evening reception of one of his colleagues in the Cabinet, Mr. Hoar met Senator Sawyer, of South Carolina,. when he mado the remark, very abruptly : "Well, Senator, Massachusetts ana South Carolina are resuming their old relations toward each other:" Mr. Sawyer saw at once that Mr. Hoar had reference to his vote against tho confirmation, and to the treatment of Mr. Hoar's father, years ago, by a South Carolina mob. Consi? dering that they both belonged to the State, were fellow-students, nud that friendly relations had always existed be? tween them, Mr. Sawyer was very much surprised at this positive piece of rude? ness ou the part of Mr. Hoar, although he very wisely and prudently ventured on no reply. He, however, called on the Attorney-General next morning, and po? litely informed bim that he thought his remarks on the evening before, unneces? sary and very severe. Mr. Hoar replied, in his characteristic style, that he did not think they were any moro Bevere than bis (Mr. Sawyer's) action towards him in the Senate. THE BAD Y BBOKEBS IN NEW YORE. And if this generous sympathy and good-will increase, the ladies, or th osa who are spoken of as standing in the book-ground, will make a good thing of it, and the firm be established as a fixed und perma? nent institution.
