Mrs. Thurlow'a listener silently, yet
not the less decidedly, acquiesced in thia
opinion. Tho lady continued:
"I rejoice now, that I did not write
for brother Joseph, as I contemplated
doing in the first panic. It would have
alarmed him dreadfully, and there is no
calculating the harm it might havo done
her mother. The doctor says she is cer?
tainly improving, and he does not now
apprehend a protracted spell, which at
first, from the violent symptoms of pneu?
monia, he seriously feared."
Mrs. Thurlow stepped back from the
fi re-place, and, as the light played full on
Karl's face, she seemed struck with its
appearance.
"You are not looking well, yourself,
Karl," she said. "For peace* sake, do
not give us another patient. What is
the matter, my son?"

DISSOLVED BONE PHOSPHATE, is thc basis of all good Fertilizers, and these aro valuable
in tho ratio of Soluble Phosphoric Acid which is in them.
Tho immonse deposits of Phosphoric Guanos which were discovered in 1807 in South Caro?
lina, by Dr. PRATT, consists mainly of Insoluble Phosphate of Lime, which is made available
aB a Fertilizer by being ground to powder, and rcdnceu by Sulphuric Acid to such a condition
as to mako its insoluble phosphate soluble in water, and thus made capable of being taken up
by growing plants. Tho insoluble Phosphate found in any commercial Fertilizer is of no
moro value to the plant than the original Phosphate rock. Thc greater the proportion of this
Soluble Phosphate which any Fertilizer contains', tho less the quantity required per acre, aud
consequently the cheapest Fertilizer is that containing the highest per centagc ?d' Soluble
Phosphate.
Impressed with these truths, the Sulphuric Acid and Super-Phosphate Company have orected
at Charleston, the first extensive Acid Chambers South of Baltimore, and are able to offer to
planters tho highest por centagc of Soluble Phosphat', of Lime known in any market.
