RICHMOND, VA., Deoember 30.-Chas. | Dougherty and David Childresa fought a prize fight this morning, for a purse of 9100. After eloven rounds, tue fight waa awarded to Dougherty, on aooount of a foul blow. MONTGOMERY, December 30.-A case involving State and federal jurisdiction has arisen here. The State law levies a tax upon the Southern Express Company ; the Company applied to Judge Bnsteed, of the United States Court, for an in? junction, wbioh was granted. The Sf uto Auditor has issued a circular to tho tax collectors, ordering them to colleot tho tax in spite of tho injunction. The caso promises to be one of great interest, and the State and Company both have emi? nent council to fight it through the courts. HOMICIDE.-On Friday, the 24th inst., a rencounter occurred ot the resideuoe of Mr. William Suiter, on the line between Montgomery and Emanuel Counties, which resulted in the death of Major Phillips, and the receipt of, probably, a mortal wound by Mr. James Morris. The parties wero both single men-Phil? lips twenty, and Morris twenty-three years of age. They were slightly under the influence of liquor, and on old grudgo existed between them. The weapons used were knives and pistols. [SavmmaJt Republican. MISSISSIPPI RECONSTRUCTION.-General Ames has ordered tho Legislature of Mississippi to convene on January ll. Alcorn, Governor; James Lynch, colored, Secretary of State; Henry Musgrove, State Auditor; Joshua S. Morris, Attor? ney-General. About one-fifth of the Le? gislature elected are conservatives.
