declared, our slaves free. We owned 570.
The males were enrolled on our army
rolls, and started from Majuaga with us

oppressors. Tbey helped us to capture
Yara on tho 10th of October, and a free?
man, "who two days before was a slave,
first held aloft the banner of indepen?
dence in the plaza of Yara. Liberated
slaves have been engaged iu every battle

array than Mexico, Chili, Peru, or any

resolution was immediately offered de?
manding the said papers. And yester?
day the senatorial fathers were discussing
the resolution to a late hour. I don't
know, but I surmise that Drake, Schurtz,
Sumner, and Trumbull wero for war;
Sherman, Chandler, and Fenton, load?
ing a large body, wero for compromise
and peace. Morton said nothing, and
eventually a resolution was passed re?
questing tho President to forward such
papers. And the Presidont will comply
with the request; and so wo will be
spared another Johnsonian oouiliot.

Ga., on Friday night, botween three no
groes-Henry Childress and Henry
hristopher on ono side, and Richard
