hanged, which sentence was commuted
to ten years' imprisonment in New
Hampshire. He was liberated, this
morning, by order of General Sherman,
and transportation provided him to re?
turn tn Kentucky ; but he deolined it,
saying he could get a living in Now
Hampshire.
LAFAYETTE, IND., December 24.-The
Montgomery Opera House was burned
this evening. The building was owned
by James Montgomery, of Chicago, and
was valued at $40,000 and insured for
$10,000. The West room was oocupied
aa the post office; the mail and office fix?
tures were saved. Comstock's billiard
room, in the basement, was damaged to
the extent of 83,500. He was not in?
sured.

his head, blowing the top completely off.
The causo of his troubles are attributed
to his son-in-law. Mrs. Wilder is known
in Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis, as
a woman who furnishes houses for pros?
