. At tho National Labor Convention,
(negro,) in Washington, J. M. Langston,
of Ohio, reported a lengthy address to
the laboring men of the country, which
was under consideration for som o time,
and. discussion was had upon striking
out the word "negro" and inserting "co?
lored." The latter was finally (by vote)
substituted. Langston is a negro, and
he knows it, and is not ashamed of the
faefc
'The barn of Mr. W. H. Funderburk,
in Chesterfield County, was destroyed
by fire on the morning of the 3d instant.
Mr. Nnrot Dees, another citizen of Ches?
terfield, lost his dwelling and out-houscs
from the same cause. A white boy,
aged eleven, and a negro girl, aged
eight years, perished in tho flames.
Both fires are supposed to be the work
of .aft incendiary.. . , '
A young mau thought to frighten two
young ladies upon their return from a
party in Sparta,. Tennessee, a few nights
ago, by wrapping himself in a sheet and
suddenly appearing before them on a
lonely road. Oue of the ladies fainted
and fell to the ground, and the other ran
home, reaching there a raving maniac.
JAMES RAMSAY, DEAD.-We learn that
James Ramsay, son of the Clerk of the
Court; who was shot on Wednesday last,
at Edgeflold Court House, S. C., in n
difficulty with a man by the name of
Murrell, died on Sunday afternoon, at 2
o'clock. Murrell is confined in jail.

If the citizens of San Froncisco, in?
stead of holding meetings and raising
funds' to oppose further Chinese immi?
gration, would only furnish them with
passes. over the Pacific Railroad to the
cotton fields of the Sontb, they would

On the 14th ultimo, near Blountsville,
Ala., Charles Murphy was killed by
Lease Turner. Mr. Champ Hensley
was thrown from his horse and killed
one day last week; one of his nephews
was killed by unknown persons the same
day; and another was thrown from bis
horse and also killed.
The New York Sun says: "Louis Na?
poleon is beginning to sell his real estate
in Paris. Ho lately sold two houses for
1,500,000 francs. It is remembered that
Louis Philippe showed a similar disposi?
tion to realize provions to February,
1848."
A man named James Gould was suffo?
cated Thursday, at New York, by pull?
ing his hat so tightly over his face that
he could not get it off. An inquest was
held and a verdict reudcred iu accord?
ance with the facts.
A man named Dryden, suspected of
complicity iu the murder of n family
near Kingsville, Mo., about six weeks
ago, was shot dead on Wednesday night,
on his farm? near Kingsville, by live un?
known mounted men.
The laundry of the St. Nicholas Hotel,
in New York, was destroyed by fire ou
the morning of the 10th, and caused a
great deal of excitement. An explosion
in tho gas works of the hotel was the
canse.
Johanna Zimmerman, an iumateof the
emigrant hospital in New York, pur?
posely drowned herself the other day in
a bath tab. A good way to got clean out
of the world.
In an Indian raid in Montana, recent?
ly, John Peck, of Franklin, Tenn., and
Allen Meorroir, of Georgia, were killed,
and a young man named Patton, from
Colombia, Tenn., was mortally wounded.
An insano woman at Madison, Wiscon?
sin, ran through the streets on Wednes?
day night, denuded herself, jumped into
a well and was drowned.
