"No, she's on your side," said Clark. ' 'Ye-wo-ow-owl" "There, I told you she was on your fe," they both exclaimed in a breath d still the "yow!" went on. Arrived there, Judge Clark selected a boot jack, and Judge Thomas a heavy cowhide boot, from the heap and settled themselves down to the work. Clark tightened his grip on the boot? jack, ana throwing up his head gave vent to a prolonged and unearthly "Ye ow-ow!" that would have reflected credit upon ten of the largest kind of oats. "Aha," thought Thomas, who was not six feet away, "he's immediately dose around. Now I'll inveigle him!" and he gave the regular dark night call of a feminine cat. Each of the judges uow advanoed a little closer, and Clark produced a ques? tioning "Owl-ow!" Thomas answered by a re-assuring "Pur-ow! pur-ow!" nud they advanced a little more. They were now in easy reach, and each imagining that the cat had but a moment more to live, whaled away, the ono with his boot, the other with his boot jack. The boot took Clark square in the mouth, demolishing his teeth, nud the boot-jack came down on Thomas' bald head just ns he was in the midst of a triumphant "Ye-ow!" When lights were brought tho cat had disappeared, but the catastrophe was in opposite corners of the room, with heels in the air, swearing blue streaks. A BELLE BURIED IN POTTER'S FIELD. - The vicissitudes of life are strong aud suggestive. On Wednesday, Mrs. W. H. Disbrow died in New York. Only a few years ago she was tho highest and most brilliant on the list of New York belles. She died in the rear room of the fifth story of ono of the most magnificently furnished and built houses in tho city; ' and though she owned the furniture, many thousands of dollars' worth, those who by her death became its owners, yes? terday sent he.-, at tho expense of the city of New York, to a home in the Potter's Field. She was the wife, too, of thc lately deceased Wm. H. Disbrow, once tbe well known proprietor of Disbrow's riding academy. Her mother discarded her when she married against her will.
