the tranqnilization of the country. On
the other hand, the Paraguayans assert
that the allied forces aro utterly nuable
to follow np their success, and that they
lack provisions, munitions of war, and
means of transportation. It is claimed
that since Lopez establisher his new
lines at San Estanislaus, his forces have
increased tc 10,000 men, and he has fifty
pieces of artillery.

expenses on a money package mis-sent

ita consideration was postponed nutil
next meeting of Council.
Charges wero preferred by toe Chief of
Polico against Policeman M. W. Allen,
for conduct unbecoming a policeman.
After nu investigation of tho charges,
Policeman Allen was found guilty, uud
fined twenty dollars for tho offence.
Pending the examination, a petition,
signed by a number of citizens, was read,
requesting that Policeman Alleu bc re-in?
stated in his office.
On motion, the prayer of the petition?
ers was granted, and tho said oilicer or?
dered to return to duty.
Alderman Agnew offered tho followiug
