Ho was born in Philadelphia, of Irish parentage, ' on the 28th of July, 1778, ancLeptered the merchant service as a oa^uLboy, at the age pf thirteen; rose through all grades to that of captain, and on the 9th of March, 1798, was commis? sioned by the elder President ?dnmn, a lieutenant in tbe United States navy. He was employed in the West Indies, to pro? tect American commerce against French privateers, and ic September, 1800, when in command of tho Experiment, a ten-gun schooner, he captured in teu minutes the French schooner Deux Amis, eight gunn, and koon after the French schooner Diana, fourteen guns. Ho was with Preble, in the naval operations against Tripoli, and served with Decatur in the brilliant attacks upon the Tripoli tan, works, for which be received Com? modore Preblo's thanks. Bonner paid $10,000 for him, after many good judges of horses had refused to take him on account of bis being "over" in the knees. SANTANTA OUT AGAIN.-It turns out that Santanta, Chief of the Kiowas and the terror of the white settlers on the plains, is not dead after all, as reported a few days ago, but is alive and on the war-path against the whites.
