road is estimated to cost about $2,250,
000, and tho rolling stock, etc., about
8750,000. No stock has been subscribed
in the South ?ince tl>e war. Before and
during tbe war $800,000 were subscribed,
which have been scaled to 8150,000. The
right of way has been generally given,
but in some cases hus to bo purchased,
aod this, together with depot sites, ?to.,
it is estimated, will take another $150,000
of stock. The road was partially graded
during the wAr, and the work done rep?
resents the ?15J,000 first named. Our
informant enys that the cross-ties are
beiug got out, and that the work is ac?
tively progressing, beginning nt Coosu
hatchie, the point of junction with the
.Savannah and Charleston Railroad. He
! say? that iron and rolling stock are all
purchased, some of the iron ou the way,
sud may bo expected to arrive in this
city about the 10th of November. They
purpose finish i ug ?uni running fifty miles
of the rond, from Coosahatohie North?
ward, some time in January, 1870, and
hope to complete rt to Augusta by May
nest. For the present, we are told, Coo?
sahatchie is the objective point.
We ure further informed that the com?
pany propose to establish towns and vil?
lages along the line of road, to give away
alternate sections of land, and thus in?
duce emigration.
So far our information. How far the
National Railway and Trust Company
will have the means to carry out this
project we arc not informed. ?t is to be
hoped, as the matter is iu thc hands of a
weultby com pan v of working capitalists,
that we will not hear of application for
"State aid" and lobbying to that end iu
the Legislature next month.
Our informant is exceedingly anxious
to dissipate prejudice, and is ready to
