The total number of graves of soldiers
who died in the late civil war now re?
corded in the printed forms published
by the United States Quartermaster's
Department, amounts to about 193,000.
There yet remain to bo printed tho re?
cords of about 120.000 graves, making an
aggregate of 300,000 of whioh tho names
of 100,000 occupants will.probably never
bo known.
The Chinese emigration question was j
discussed in the Louisville Convention,
on opposite reports on the subject. The
convention, however, wisely refrained
from any determination rn tho premises.
It is one which may very properly bo left |
to different sections or interests, or even
individuals, to take care of for them?
selves.
A painter named Georgo Goro was on
gaged in ornamenting a church steepio
in Newion Corner, Massachusetts, a few
days ago, when the rope sustaining one
end of the platform slipped, and he wus
dashed to pieces.
The Hon. Beaufort T. Watts, who bad I
filled many important positions, died at j
his residence in Laurens, on tho 15th,
after a lingering illness. Ho was in his
eighty-first year.

ton, on Tbursduy last, from tho effects of j
which ho died on Saturday.
Two runaway slaves irom Cuba were
found on a brig just arrived ut Portland,
Maine. Thoy had been stowed away in
thv. hold. They are uow free.
The inhabitants of the town of Yorfns,
in tho province of Lechuiu, China, have
destroyed the Boman Catholic Church
and maltreated tho native Christians.
Stephen Clark, a man of disreputable
character, residing near Clear Spring,
Indiana, was lynched on tho 7th, for j
robbiug a store.
Four Spaniards have been executed at
Seville for tho murder of a number of
soldiers, by throwing a train, containing
troops, oft' the track.
