group of mad-caps, gathering around
their hostess, a bride of B?X months.

"Long before he had conclu dod his
speech, I had beaten a hasty retreat un?

in making allusions to our 'distress' upon
'the evening of his arrival,' when 'he
found two lone damsels,' about to be
killed by a 'horrid burglar,' always add?
ing that, like the 'true knight' ne was,
he immediately 'rushed to the rescue,'
despatched the ruffian, and saved the
girls. Indeed, I almost hated the scamp;
and
" 'And showed your displeasure so
strongly, that when he proposed to shield
you from all such 'ruffians' in future, if
you would prdmise to 'take him for bet?

clared it was a bargain, and became Mrs.
