An Enoch Arden.
A gentleman who. witnessed the play
of Enoch Ardon at D?Bar's Opera Honse
relatoa n ciroumstanoo very similar in its
details to tho sad story of the cast-away
sailor. We give the statement in his own
words:
??That play recalls to my mind a cir?
cumstance that happened in my own ex?
perience. A sergeant in my regiment
was wounded at Ohiokamauga, and wae
reported dead. He was seen to fall in
the heat of the engagement, and om
lines being pushed onck, the body wat
not recovered until next day. When thc
poor fellow wes fonnd, he was so muti?
lated by being trampled on by the caval?
ry that his face could not be recognized.
A comrade, however, fonnd in his brenn I
pocket a miniature of his wife, and sent il
to her, with an account of his death. Il
turned out that the body was not that ol
Tom Cl-?-, but a sergeant of ano thc;
company. Tom, desperately wounded,
fell into tho hands of the enemy, anc
was sent to Andersonville, where thc
rebel surgeon out off one of his arms anc
one of his legs; and, in spite of bad f are;
he recovered in due time. I never knev,
why they kept Tom so long in prison
exoept it was for the purpose of exchang
ing him for ft sound man.
*'When poor Tom returned to hi:
home in. Pennsylvania, he was a men
wreok of his former self, and nobody ii
the village knew him. His wife had re
moved to Illinois with her parents, mon
than a year previously. Without muk
ing himself known to any of his old ao

or Illinois, to hunt for his wife. Whei
he arrived in the neighborhood when
she was living, he learned that she wai
married to an old friend of his, who ha<

that the material in each will correspond to thc advertisement.

Puro Soluble Phosphate of Lime, and furnished at sixty dollars per ton. ?
