that State go over without action in
Congress until the session commencing
in 1870. It is proposed to get up evi?
dence of outrages and frauds by the
Walker party, and bj the aid of flllibus
tering in Congress and references to the
Reconstruction Committee, have the

means, the present office-holders will be
permitted to serve at least twelve months
longer. The originators of the scheme,
it is said, receive the strong support of
both Butler and BontWell.

late illness of the Emperor Napoleon has
drawn attention to his heir. One paper
speaks of him as "alad of fifteen." An?
other (the London Times) says "he is
little over thirteen years old. " Another
says his birth-day is next March; but
how old then is, not stated. We suppose
be will then bo fourteen. Ho is repre?
sented as tall for his age; but some of
the papers say he has undergone a great
change since his mysterious illness last
year. Before that he was said to he very
bright and lively; but since, he has lost
bis mind, and is very little above an
idiot.
Mr. Pendleton, in the excellent con?
versational speech that he made last
week to Some of his friends and neigh?
bors, said in reference to the Chinese
question that he was disgusted with the
talk about low wages in the United
States. But we apprehend, that, when
Mr. Pendleton haa work to be done on
bis own account, he decidedly prefers
cheap labor to dear; all other things
being equal And we don't see why
other employers of labor should not
have a similar preference and be allowed
to gratify it. Mr. Pendleton, we must do
bim the justice to say, advocates no re?
