debt and interest. Our juries adopted
and have followed the rule of allowing
one-half the principal and interest to
date of verdict The ball gathers as it

the Supreme Court of the United States
. has ever decided that the national cur?
rency, known as "greenbacks," could
not be taxed by State authority, I am
- now prepared to report, f-?r the informa?
tion of all whom it may concern, that
suoh is the tact. The decision is fully
reported in the ease of the Bank r.s. the
Supervisors of New York, 7th Wallnco's
Reports, page 26. Tt therefore follows
that the recent Act of the Legislature of
South' Carolina which attempts to tax
greenbacks, like any other property, is
unconstitutional and should not be en?
