has accepted the nomination of the De?
mocrats of his State as candidate for Go
ernor. In his speech of acceptance he
declares that the elections of last year
settled the reconstruction and barbarian
suffrage question, and that they nro now
dead issues. He urges that dead issues
be passed by for the oampaign. With
regard to the prohibitory liquor law he
is quite caustic. He Boys:

banquets of Borne in its decadence it
was the custom to ohoose an 'Arbiter

high prerogative was to regulate the liba?
tions of the guests and role the riot of
the feast. Nor is it difficult to pictnre

this, as in other things, follow the mis?

of drinking; but, no longer content in a

teach in the house adjoining the Episcopal
