Theso names are prominent in the conservative movement in this State. The cotton worm has appeared on many plantations in this County. On Big Black Uiver, their appearance this year is five days earlier than last, whilo tho crop is at least two weeks later. MONTOOMBBY, August 12.-The first bale of new cotton in Alabama was re? ceived yesterday afternoon, too late to put oh'the market, from tho plantation of Cbaprnnn & Rives, of this County, and sold ibis morning at 68 cents; it classes strict middling, is of fine staple and weighed nearly 600 pounds. MOBIE, August 12.-The first balo of new cotton, weighing 380 pounds, and classed good style low middlings, was sold at 45 cents per pound, to-day. Customs from the 81st to 7th instant, S3.790.000. The Secretary of War orders Pratt to be held at Fort Schuyler until further orders, notwithstanding Judge McCunn's decision discharging him. Judge Barnard, at the special term of the Supreme Court, vacated all orders of Judge Peckham in the Susquehana Rail? road matter, and issued non-bailablo writs against Pruyn, Ramsey and Van Valkenburg for contempt. The internal revenue recepts to-day are $778,000. The Government sold tho steamer Pe quod to the Haytien President, Salnave, for $190,000. The Cubans have official advices to the 2d instant. The leaders state that were belligerent rights accorded to them by the United States, snch would be the effect in Cuba as to enable them to se? cure possession of tbo entire island, ex? cept Havana, within thirty days. The Cubans throughout the island are in sympathy with the Cespedos Govern? ment, and disaffection in the Spanish army would leavo tho Spanish Govern? ment without an army, it boing reported that a serious difficulty exists in tho volunteer organization. 400 troops, from San Jago de Cuba, were captured by Jordan. Tho forco sont by Valmaseda to relievo them were defeated with the loss of half their force. It is reported that the Spaniards were driven from Cinco Villas district with a heavy loss. The Cubans aro now in Eossession of the ontire district. Jordan ns accomplished his purposes every? where. His troops, inspirited by suc? cesses, are in excellent spirits. A cargo of slaves recently landed at Cinco Villas were captured and liberated. Quesada's forces are closing on their opponents who have no troops outside Nuevitas ex? cept those confined in Puerto Principo. Charles C.
