pany, Atlanta Department.
To the People of South Carolina :
Tho abovo Company was organized in 1SCC,
in consequence of tho wholcsalo forfeituro of|
Southern policies by Northern companies. The
unparalleled success of tho enterpriso has
forced several of these companies to restore
their Southern policies, from thc fact that they
could not operate in our midst without thc ap?
pearance of honest)-.
Wo keep all our monoy at homo to build up
our impoverished country-overy dollar of |
promium being safely invested in the State
from which it is derived. Tho institution is
purely Southern, and hence should appeal
with great forco to tho patriotism and sympa?
thy of overy Southern heart.
'Tis not our purpose to make war on other 1
companies, but to exhibit the special advan?
tages offered by this purely Southern Comps-1
ny-founded on patriotism and solid wealth.
Ita ratio of assets to liabilities-the true teat 1
of a company's strength, ia second to none on
this continent-being nearly SOO to 100.
Whenever and wherever we havo proeented
the claims of this Company, it has not only
enlisted thc sympathies of our people, but has |
also secured their hearty co-operation. We
have secured 500 policios in Sox th Carolina
since the 10th of February. We number
among our Directors Gen. Wade Hampton and
Col. Wm. Johnston, gentlemen well known to
every citizen of South Carolina. Wo appeal
personally to tho people of South Carolina to
assist in pushing forward this deservedly
popula* Bodthern institution.

TWO GOOD REASONS
FOKJOIMNO THIS 1
ASSOCIATION
IN PBEFIBENCE.tO
INSURING IN ANY COMPANY.
1. It iaa puroly mutual Association, in which
.ali tho profits are divided equitably among tho
members, and no part of them absorbed by
stockholders. For this- reason it can insure at
lower rates and pay larger dividends than any
Western or Southern Company.
2. It ie a purely MUTUAL WESTERN AND
SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION, with its funds all
invested in the Weat and South, at high rates
of interest. For this reason it can iusure at
lower rates and pay larger dividends than any
Eastern Company.
ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS invested at 10
per cent, for 50 years will amount to $11,739.09.
ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS invested at G
per cent, for thc samo time will produce only
$1,812.01.
DIFFERENCE-$9,897.08.
Why should Western and Southern men pay
monoy to Eastern Lifo Insurance Companies,
to bo loaned out by thom at G to 7 per cen).,
when the Lifo Association has a largo demand
for it at 10 per cent.? High interest insuros
largo dividends.
Tho LIFE ASSOCIATION proposes to tho
people of South Carolina, as she has dono to
all tho Southern States, to make it a HOME
COMPANY-that is, to invest the money de
rived from each State in the different States
from which it is collected. Money ia vorymuch
needed in the West and South, to assist in de?
veloping and building np tho commercial, ma?
nufacturing, minorai and agricultural inter?
ests; and as the laws of New York and sovoral
Eastern States absolutely prohibit their com?
panies from inveeting money outBido their own
States; and as th?se companies have hereto?
fore done a large portion of tho business of tho
West and South, and now hold many million
dollars belonging to thc citizens of these sec?
tions-of tho use of which they aro deprived
by law-we thereforo earnestly urgo upon oar
people thc necessity of insuring their lives'in
good Western and .Southern Companies paly,
?ud thereby kee?; the.ir, jnoney at homo,, The
Association, was started over a year ago, for
J the express purpose of changing the current
of Life Insurance from tho East to the West,
and to-day, without a particle of stock, we
have
ONE MILLION OF DOLLARS ASSETS.
We invite attention to our rates and plan,
and feel confident that we can command the
influence, and hearty co-operation of tho citi?
zens of South Carolina.
