MONTGOMRRY, ALA., August 4.-Tho eleotion news is meagre, as far as heard from. The vote is mueh less than last year. The probabilities are in favor of the election of Parkinson, Democrat, in the Third District, by a handsome majo? rity. The contest between Worthy, De? mocrat, and Buckly, Republican, in the Second District, will be much closer than was expected, and tho latter's friends are fearful of his defeat, on ac? count of tho great falling off of the ne? gro vote. MOBILE, August 4.-Mann's majority, in Mobile County, so far as heard from, is 1,459. Several precincts are yet to be heard from. The County probably gives 1,800 for Manu. At the conrt house iu Baldwin Coun? ty, a radical negro mob took possession of the polls, beat one white man badly, and prevented any Democratic negroes from voting. That precinct gives Buck 220 majority. Pollard, the capital of Escambia, gives Mann 109 majority, Chiiborno, Monroe County, at 4P. M., had polled 383 votes -all for Mann. Tho indications aro that Mann will be eleoted by 1,500 majority. CHARLESTON, August 4.-Arrived steamer J. W. Everma ., Philadelphia. Sailed-steamer Saragossa, New York. Henry McDaniel, a colored preacher, publishes a card of thanks, in the Inka Gazette, to the white citizens of that city, for having raised money enough to pay his church out of debt. There was not a single radical name on this subscrip? tion hst. Mr. Defoul and another gentleman (name unknown! were killed by a loco? motive on the Hudson River Railroad, near Fort Washington, on Saturday, and Mr. William Bradley was killed at New Haven, on Saturday, having been knock? ed down and crushed by a passing train. On Sunday night the occupants of the tents at the camp-meeting grounds at Cedar Grove, Narragansett Bay, were drugged with chloroform, and a large amount of money, watches nnd clothing was stolen. Impelled either by a sonso of justice, or the evident feel? ing of other nations in thc matter, the Sublime Porte, os a conqueror, hus been lenient and merciful, even magnanimous. Freely condoning all who look part in the insurrection, he invited back, also, to their nativo homes, tho many thou? sands of refugees, promised all protec? tion, and gave assurances to ameliorate their civil, political and religious condi? tion. Though some of tho defeated revolutionists, the Christians, might be disposed to claim still further concessions, wo doubt whe? ther even they can assert that the Turk has proven perfidious to those words upon which thoy laid down rebellious arms. A new system of public administration has been introduced; under it general and local assemblies or councils to regulate all the affairs of the island have been elected, and so fairly elected that not oven a whisper of a complaint has been hoard in relation to any governmental inter? ference, Tho General Assembly takes coguizauce of matters relating to the levying of taxes, apportions them among tho different distriots into which tho island is divided, controls all modos of expenditure, and legislatively octs upon measures of administration. Tho local councils, olected from tho various dis? tricts, havo similar, though less exten? sivo, functions. To both assemblies the delegates in equal numbers, Christians and Musselinen, arc elected in those sec? tions whero the population is mixed Christians alono from those districts in which Christians only live. Repressive measures, adopted during the insurrec? tion, seem all to have been removed; tho refugees havo returned in large numbers; the troops have been gradually with? drawn. Tho Porte, too, has granted tho same aid in money formerly given to the support of tho Christian schools, and promises to introduce a measure of ge? neral education. Manifestly, thought.be time was not ripe for the mveronceof tho island from Turkish rule when the insurrection was started, the Cretans have won, by their appeal to arms, many and important concessions to tho de? mands whioh stirred np the war. [Philadelphia Inquirer, Two more cases of death through tho carelessness of druggists'olerks have just occurred. In Baltimore, a child has been killed, according to the verdict of the coroner's jury, "by aqua ammonia, administered through the gross careless? ness of the apothecary;" and in Boston an infant "by repeated poisonous doses of laudanum carelessly dispensed for paregoric," by a druggist's clerk. NEGRO SHOT AT CHUBOH.-On lost Sa? turday night, during a revival meeting among the negroes, about four miles West of Macon, a negro boy named Charles Jordan, slipped into the house or church, and placing a pistol within a few inohes of the bock of a negro mau named Ned Neal, fired, and then ran out and made his escape. A little girl, eight years of agc, died in Pittsburg, Penn., ou Thursday, from lock-jaw, tho result, it is alleged, of au oporatiou performed at a dentist's office, in extracting a tooth. The Rev. Miss Olympia Brown has ac copied the pastorate of a Bridgeport, Conn., church. A NEW MANOUVRA-A..bill in equity filed ia tho Court o? Common Fleas for Laughs Couuty, in behalf of the Presi denfind Directors of tho Bank of tho State of Sou th Carolina against the Lau? rens Railroad Company and others, com? plains that at a sale, under an execution at law, of tbe rolling stock of the Lau? rens Railroad Company, (that corpora tion being insolvent, and the State and tho bank being both heavily interested os creditors in the disposition of its assets,) "a locomotive was sold and knocked off to his Excellency Robert K. Scott, not ia his official character as Governor, but to him as aa individual, and that tho agent, one Joseph Crews, who acted for the purchaser, bas pro? claimed that he means to remove the said locomotive, regardless of the paramount lieus of the State and the bank, both liens being perfected long anterior to the judgment under which the locomotive was sold." Tho complainants therefore pray that writs of injunction may issue restraining Governor Scott and his agent, Crews, from removing the locomotive or any other movable property of the com? pany, of which they may have become the purchasers. The answer of Attorney General Chamberlain, representing the interests of the State in the matter, sus? tains euch and all of the allegations con? tained in the bill, and moreover expli? citly charges that "tho purchasers under said sale are now designing and contriv? ing to remove and dispose of said pro? perty so purchased." The Attorney General, therefore, joins in the prayer for the injunction. What does all this mean? Is it possi? ble that the Governor of South Carolina, bound ns he is to look after and protect her interests, has taken advantage of his office to buy. on his individual account, personal property upou which he knew that the State holds a lien, and that he is seeking to remove such property be? yond the jurisdiction of her courts? This, it seems to us, is the statement of facts, which wo have upon the authority of tho Attorney-General himself. [Charleston 2?eics. THE SOUTH CAROLINA RADICALS. Forney has received a letter written for his Press from Columbia, S. C., in which the writer says: "There has been some talk among tho Republicaus who shall be nominated for the next election. F. J. Moses, Jr., will try and satisfy his ambition by becoming Lieutenant-Goveruor. No one but Scott is spoken of for Governor. Sawyer is not at all popular with his party here, and though spoken of ns a conservative can? didate, in opposition to Scott, neither Democrats nor radicals favor the idea." DEATH OF THE SOLDIERS' FRIEND. The Sandersville Georgian reports that Mrs. Wagner, an old citizen of Wash? ington County, died at the residence of her sou, Mr. Henry Wagner, on the 26th ultimo. Mrs. W. was noted for ber kind offices to the sick soldiers in Richmond. Tribute of Respect. But he hus been suddenly snatched from us in his youthful prime-wo hope and trust, to a far happier world.
