Borne members, including Clarendon,
Advocated a more moderate proceeding,
each, as letting the bill take its coarse

Salisbury towards Gladstone. A large
rote against the preamble shows that at?
tempts at a compromise is useless. There
is little doubt but that Gladstone will
farry bis point, by withdrawing the bill
immediately, to be followed by a speedy
adjournment to August, by which time
tho oreation of a new batch of Peers will
present a ministerial majority in the
House of Lords. Placards appear on the
walls to-day, headed "Shall people or
lords role," and calling a mass meeting
