The Tribune] says the ehoiee lies between Cincinnati, Chicago, Memphis and St. Louis, and votes Tn favor of St. Louis, after show? ing the advantages and disadvantages of the several cities mentioned. NEWSPAPER,-The reading of a good and well oondncted newspaper, even for the Bpace of a quarter of n year, brings more sound instruction and leaves a better impression than would be acquired probably at the best school in twelve months. Talk to the members of a family who read the papers, and com? pare their information with those who ao not. The difference is beyond com? parison. AN INGENIOUS INVENTION.-A piece of mechanism for transferring railroad cars from one track to the other without ne? cessitating the running of tho car several hundred feet backward or forward, as the case may be, and without tho use of switches, hos been patented within tho Inst few days. The practical advantages of it ave a saving of depot room and of time, and railroad men say that it pos? sesses some intrinsic merit. A man in Adair County, Iowa, has in? vented a cannon which he claims will throw a projectile fourteen miles, and has gone to Washington to get a patent. He proposes to offer it to tho Govern? ment for $1,000,000. A Toledo paper mentions a young In? dian there, who confiders himself in fall dress when he has a red flannel string around his neck. Indiana has decided in conrt that a man having more white than negro blood in his veins, is entitled to vote in that State.__^ Information Wanted.
